13th February 2010

Nearly 300 young athletes braced the cold albeit dry weather, at the scenic Foremark reservoir to compete in Ivanhoe Robins Athletics club annual junior cross country event. The event, sponsored by Aldi, attracted its strongest field yet with many of the regions top runners fighting for position.

The day started well for the Robins with the clubs George Fielding claiming first place in the year 1/2 boys race. The Robins continued to demonstrate their talent with Isobel Armstrong running a tactically brilliant race to take first place in the year 3/4 girls. Isobel was ably supported by Holly Powell in 4th and Jasmine Stevens in 11th to take first team prize. Holly only year 3 looks well placed to step into Isobels shoes next year. Robins Millie Shaw, Leah Smith and Mia Rawlings came in strongly to take second team prize.

The medal haul continued for the Robins with Megan Lewis (9/10 girls),James Collington (Year 11 and over boys) and Lucy Arkinstall Year 11 and over girls) all running strongly over a tough two mile course to take bronze.

The Robins year7/8 boys showed strength in numbers taking both team places. Zach Meakin, Nathan Lewis and Tom Riley (1st). Jake Shaw, Oliver Evans and George Roberts 2nd.

The day ended as it began for the club with Hannah Cox leading from start to finish ,storming home strongly to win gold in the year 7/8 girls. The girls also claimed 2nd team prize with Hannah, Abbie Williamson and Harriet Roberts.

Sportshall Athletics Challenge Under 13/15s event which took place at Kibworth High School on Saturday 16 January 2010

31 Robins competed in the above competition against other athletes from 6 diferent County clubs and were once again a credit to their club

Although the format of the event, had to be re-structured because of a number of incomplete teams, our young athletes did have the opportunity to compete in 5 Field events and 1 Running event (in a normal competition there would be a lot more relays/races)

Congratulations to Holly Drake, who finished 2nd place Overall in the Individual Under 13 Girls Competition ( just for the record, well done to the Under 13s team, who finished top team with 154 points , although there were no prizes for the overall team on this occasion)

A big thanks to everyone (including all the parents) for supporting this event and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves (please see www.lraa.org.uk for results)
