As the Cross Country Season comes to a close, there are quite a few Robins who deserve a mention for the latest runs completed in the Grand Prix or for their schools. So here is a quick update:
Winter Grand Prix
The March Run was held on a lovely dry but cold day, and it was obviously good for running because we had some great times and a lot of personal bests for the course.

The April race was another lovely day – in fact I heard complaints that it was too hot!. Some more great times and good to see some new runners for the club turning out as well.

Primary Schools Cross Country (years 3-6)
14 Robins ran for North West Leicestershire at the County Finals on 28th March 2009. We gained one individual gold medal and although we did not come in the first three as a team for any one race, we gained an overall third place for the district so everybody’s result helped to gain us that bronze position.
Year 3/4 girls: Faith Dowdy 19th, Millie Shaw 61st
Year 5 Girls: Amy Shaw 60th .
Year 6 Girls: Hannah Cox 1st , Harriet Roberts 13th , Lucy Roberts 44th , Millie Ramsell 60th .
Year 6 Boys: Nathan Lewis 7th , Tom Riley 8th , Oliver Evans 15th , Jake Shaw 37th ,Levi Neilson-Gatenby 54th , Reece Paling 55th , Adam Smith 70th
Zach Meakin also ran for Hinckley and Bosworth district in the year six boys and came in 4th overall.
Thrussington Fun Run Series
The last two races in this fun series saw the Brooksby course being reversed from last year to give a steep downward hill on the course in some very cold conditions, followed by up to eight stream crossings at Queniborough on a glorious day.
Only a few hardy Robins ran all three of these races and the final two results are as follows:
Brooksby:
First race – Zach Meakin came in first in 4 min 13, followed by Hannah Cox in second place in 4 min 16 and Jordan Meakin in 13th place in 5 minutes exactly.
Second Race – Georgia Gartside was first girl home in third place overall in 8 min 43 followed by Matthew Cox in eighth in 9 min 22.
Queniborough:
First race – Zach Meakin gained second place overall in 4 min 34 with Hannah Cox again first girl in 4 min 51 and Jordan Meakin in 17th in 5 min 40.
Second Race – A tremendous performance from Matthew Cox saw him gain a fifth place and a personal best on this tough course in 10 min 29.
Small Schools
Ten Robins ran in the final small school’s race, in the year 3-4 girls race Faith Dowdy came 3rd,Leah Smith 8th and Millie Shaw 12th .
In the year 5-6 girls, Harriet Roberts came 1st, Lucy Roberts 3rd ,Ella wittering 6th Amy Shaw 7th Gemma Holland 18th and Amy Merriman 19th. Adam Smith came 11th in the year 5-6 boys.
Overall places for the series went to:
Faith Dowdy 2nd overall in the year 3-4 girls.
Harriet and Lucy Roberts 1st and 2nd overall in the year 5-6 girls
Nathan Lewis 1st overall in the year 5-6 boys.
Wollaton Park Inter County
Three Robins represented Leicestershire at the Inter county Cross Country championships at Wollaton Park and all ran extremely well over a tough course.
In the under 13 girls, Hannah Cox came in 60th and Georgia Gartside 138th and in the under 13 boys Sam Moore came 102nd .There were around 300 runners in each race.
Presentations
Presentations for the Winter Grand Prix and the cross country season will be held on 18th April 2009 at Measham Leisure centre in between the two Robins sessions. The first session will end ten minutes early and the second begin 10 minutes late to enable all Robins and parents to attend the presentations.
There will also be a presentation for the pentathlon agility challenge undertaken by groups one and two.
