County Cross Country Championships

The teams were depleted due to illness and injury, but despite the snow, Zoe Harris, Abby Williamson, Nathan Lewis and Tom Riley all turned out to run for Robins and put in some great performances on a tough course.

********    ‘Athlete of the Month’   ***********

Our coaching co-ordinator has selected Holly Drake and Charlie Lord as athletes of the month for January for their sterling efforts at Sportshall and general attitude and effort at training during January.

Winter Grand Prix

Unfortunately, due to the snow and ice, the Derby runner race at Bagworth was cancelled. We have therefore replaced this race with The Thrussington Fun Run on 20th March, which is a lovely race including streams and hay bales.

There are three remaining dates for the winter grand prix:

February 13th 2010 - Ivanhoe Challenge

March 7th 2010 - Centurion 2k fun run

March 20th 2010 – Thrussington Fun Run (Entry form attached)

There is also a centurion race on Sunday 8th February and the Queniborough fun run (another wet one!) on 20th February so plenty of opportunity to get out there and race.

Sportshall Competition

Sportshall Athletics Challenge Under 13/15s event which took place at Kibworth High School on Saturday 16 January 2010

31 Robins competed in the above competition against other athletes from 6 different County clubs and were once again a credit to their club

Although the format of the event, had to be re-structured because of a number of incomplete teams, our young athletes did have the opportunity to compete in 5 Field events and 1 Running event (in a normal competition there would be a lot more relays/races)

Congratulations to Holly Drake, who finished 2nd place Overall in the Individual Under 13 Girls Competition (just for the record, well done to the Under 13s team, who finished top team with 154 points, although there were no prizes for the overall team on this occasion)

This Competition, also doubled up as trials for team squad selection for the Leicestershire and Rutland Under 13/15s Regional Championships which took place at Grantham on Sunday 31 January 2010

So again well done to the following Ivanhoe Robins who represented their County:

Under 13 Girls - Holly Drake, Sarah Davies, Molly Harper, Gemma Holland, Abby Williamson and Hannah Cox

Under 13 Boys - Nathan Lewis, Levi Neilson, Adam Smith, William Lord, Reece Paling and Vincent Stiles

Under 15 Girls - Megan Lewis,

Under 15 Boys - Charles Lord and William Jackson

All the Leicestershire and Rutland teams finished 4th at the Regional event and special mention goes to Holly Drake who won a gold medal for her 6.81 meter leap in the Standing Triple Jump (Girls Under 13s) and Gemma Holland who secured a bronze medal in the shot (Girls Under 13s)

Would you like to qualify as an Athletics Official?

If any of our young athletes (aged 14 years +) Coaches, Committee Members or Parents are interested in qualifying to become an Athletics Official (Timekeeper, Field Judge etc) please contact Goff on 07747766253

The Sport Relief Mile 2010 –

Sence Valley Forest Park, Ibstock, Sunday 21st March

On March 21st North West Leicestershire District Council will be running this year's Sport Relief Mile at Sence Valley Park, Ibstock. Sport Relief is a national charity programme that aims to raise a huge amount of money for good causes through sporting events. The whole of the UK will come together to get active, raise cash and change lives. Sport Relief has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things to make a difference - from David Walliams’ swim across the English Channel, to Eddie Izzard’s amazing marathon a day around the UK. The Sport Relief Mile is the main event for thousands of participants to join. At the Sence Valley Forest Park event there will be 1, 3 and 6 mile courses. If you are interested in participating then all you need to do is apply online at www.sportrelief.com. Once on the site, click on "enter the mile" and type in your postcode or 'Ibstock' and follow the instructions to register for the mile. It would be great to get some experienced runners to take part in the event and to encourage runners of all abilities to take part and complete the mile!

North West Leicestershire District Council are also looking for Volunteers and Race Marshalls from the Ivanhoe Robins and Hermitage Harriers to help out on the day. If you are interested then please email chris.iliffe@nwleicestershire.gov.uk for further details

Charnwood Athletics Club Open warm up meeting 18th April 2010. Open to anyone to go and compete and get some times/distances recorded for the start of the season.

Trip to Oxford 30th May 2010

For the past three years, we have taken a bus (or two) of Robins, parents and coaches to the 5 star/ 10 step award athletics meeting at Oxford. This year it is being held on Sunday 30th May 2010. It is a great event because it starts from age 7 and you compete against your own year group. Everyone who has been in the past has thoroughly enjoyed the day and we have had some individual medals as well. Everyone also gets a certificate with their 10step/5star award points. If you are interested in going we need to know as soon as possible to book buses etc. We expect Robins to enter themselves for the event (cost £7 this year) but the club pays for all athletes on the bus. Anyone accompanying can also go on the bus at a nominal charge. All Robins should have at least one adult with them. (Details of events and entry form etc attached)
