Oxford AC track and Field Event

Another glorious day for the Oxford trip this year saw 25 Robins and their supporters take part in a successful track event with a good few personal bests and for some, the first opportunity to compete on a track against other clubs. The standard was high and although we did not bring home any medals this year, we acquitted ourselves well as a club and the support everyone gave to each other was fantastic.

The full results are on the notice board and are summarised below. Look at the website for the up to date club records and hopefully this will give everyone something to aim for in the future. It would be great to see even more Robins attending an event like this next year. The 10 step and 5 star certificates will be handed out once they arrive at the club.

Important

Dates to Note

We will not be at Measham leisure centre on the following dates:

June13th – Woolaton Park Fun run 11.30 at Nottingham

June 27th – Robins will be held at Loughborough University track

August 22nd – May be training at Sence valley Ibstock – or a track meeting at Loughborough - watch this space!

The Summer Grand Prix race list

During the summer, we organise a grand prix based on various events. This year there are just six events as listed below.  Each Robin gains points for each event and the best four events count overall. You have to complete four to qualify for the grand prix. There are points overall and for each age group depending on the age at the first event.

You are responsible for entering the events and getting there etc and where applicable reporting your number to whoever is recording the results for the club. It is difficult to record everyone, so your numbers are important, as is your kit. You must wear your blue Robins T-shirt or vest to run and be counted for the grand prix.

The Remaining Events are as follows:

Event 3: Woolaton park fun run (Saturday June 13th)

(note: No Robins at Measham) see www.bluecoat.nottingham.sch.uk

(Enter in advance or on the day) fun run starts 11.30am

Event 4: Worthington fun Run (Tuesday June 30th) Enter on the day

Event 5: Throwing (during Robins sessions) (Saturday August 1st)

Event 6: Sprint (during Robins sessions) (Saturday September 5th)

The first group aim to run outside on the first Saturday of each month so come prepared! The others alternate as before but you may end up outside any week so please bring spare shoes and socks.

Other Events

As well as encouraging all Robins to enter our grand prix events, there are also other things going on just for fun. See the flyer at the end for details of the fun family/friends relays starting from the Malt Shovel Pub in Worthington on 10th July. This is a joint event with the senior club; Ivanhoe Runners and you can come as a team or be put into a team on the night. See Ivan for more details.

There is a fun run at Hinckley on 24th June (Wednesday evening). This replaces the popular ‘Dog and Hedgehog Kids Kaper’ . See www.hinckleyrunningclub.com for more details. Click on Hinckley 5k but make sure you enter the mile fun run not the 5k! It starts at 6.45pm.

Feedback

Please let us know if you have (or haven’t) enjoyed events such as Oxford, Shobnall Track, Loughborough Hi Pac, Centurion Grand Prix, fun runs etc, or if there was a specific reason why you did not attend. This helps us to plan events that the children enjoy and gain benefit from.

Important Message from our Chairman – Please read and respond directly to Ivan if this applies to you (or your child)

Affiliation

You may or may not be aware that the Ivanhoe Robins has now affiliated directly to England Athletics rather than through its senior club Ivanhoe Runners.

Because of this, all athletes over the age of 11 who wish to do so can now be affiliated to England Athletics with the Ivanhoe Robins as their first claim club.

If you are under 11 years old, or a member of another club, then please ignore this information.

If you are considering joining another club with better facilities (like a track) then again ignore this information as transferring clubs can still be a bit silly. But remember, if you do compete, you will need to register as an unattached runner and pay an insurance surcharge if required.

However, if you do want to be affiliated through the Ivanhoe Robins, we will pay your £5 registration fees out of your membership fees. This will be given personal portal access on the England Athletics web site, plus other small benefits.

I do, however, need all the following information below:-

·        First Name

·        Other names

·        Surname

·        Date of Birth

·        Gender

·        Address including Post code

·        Home telephone number

·        Mobile telephone number

·        E-mail address

·        The confirmation you wish to be a 1st claim Ivanhoe Robin athlete.

This information needs to be returning to me by 12th June 2009, as I only intend to register once this year with next year being due by 1st April 2010
