New Robins

A big welcome to all the new Robins who have started at the club recently. There are quite a few new faces and hopefully we will soon learn everyone’s names.

Please come and sign in before your session so that we know who is present at any time.

If you have any questions at all come and ask!

Oxford AC track and Field Event

The closing date for entries to Oxford has now passed. We have almost 70 Robins and supporters going.

The buses will leave from Ashby Library (car parking is free there on a Sunday) and you need to be there at 8.00am so that we have plenty of time to get there for the first event.

Bring a picnic and warm clothes and chairs and rugs can also be taken. There is a stand and light refreshments available at the track and we will take the Robins’ tent so that everyone can leave their things together. Hopefully it will be another glorious day like the last two years.

There will be plenty of coaches there to help out, but please check the times of your events when they send out the timetable so that you can be in the right place at the right time. Parents are responsible for their children at all times.

Pentathlon Challenge

Over the last couple of months, groups one and two have taken part in the Pentathlon challenge, testing balance, eye to hand co-ordination, agility, speed and acceleration, rhythm and jumping. 62 Robins completed the challenge with 11 gold awards going to : Ross Parnham, Oliver Evans, Reece Paling, Adam Smith, Millie Shaw, Molly Harper, Abby Williamson, Millie Ramsell, Paige Brown, Faith Dowdy and  Holly Drake.

Highest marks went to Boys: Oliver Evans (282) and Girls: Holly Drake (278) with Millie Shaw being the youngest to achieve gold for her age.

The first group aim to run outside on the first Saturday of each month so come prepared! The others alternate as before but you may end up outside any week so please bring spare shoes and socks.

3counties Track & Field

Well done to those Robins who competed at the county championships over last weekend; Lucy Arkinstall, Megan Lewis, Sam Moore, Ellie Shaw, Georgia Gartside, Hannah Cox, Zach Meakin and Jake Shaw. Several received medals and there were some great personal bests too.

The Summer Grand Prix race list

During the summer, we organise a grand prix based on various events. This year there are just six events as listed below.  Each Robin gains points for each event and the best four events count overall. You have to complete four to qualify for the grand prix. There are points overall and for each age group depending on the age at the first event.

You are responsible for entering the events and getting there etc and where applicable reporting your number to whoever is recording the results for the club. It is difficult to record everyone, so your numbers are important, as is your kit. You must wear your blue Robins T-shirt or vest to run and be counted for the grand prix.

The Remaining Events are as follows:

Event 2: Long Jump at Shobnall Track (Saturday May 16th)

(note: No Robins at Measham)

Event 3: Woolaton park fun run (Saturday June 13th)

Important Message from our Chairman – Please read and respond directly to Ivan if this applies to you (or your child)

Affiliation

You may or may not be aware that the Ivanhoe Robins has now affiliated directly to England Athletics rather than through its senior club Ivanhoe Runners.

Because of this, all athletes over the age of 11 who wish to do so can now be affiliated to England Athletics with the Ivanhoe Robins as their first claim club.

If you are under 11 years old, or a member of another club, then please ignore this information.

If you are considering joining another club with better facilities (like a track) then again ignore this information as transferring clubs can still be a bit silly. But remember, if you do compete, you will need to register as an unattached runner and pay an insurance surcharge if required.

However, if you do want to be affiliated through the Ivanhoe Robins, we will pay your £5 registration fees out of your membership fees. This will be given personal portal access on the England Athletics web site, plus other small benefits.

I do, however, need all the following information below:-

·        First Name

·        Other names

·        Surname

·        Date of Birth

·        Gender

·        Address including Post code

·        Home telephone number

·        Mobile telephone number

·        E-mail address

·        The confirmation you wish to be a 1st claim Ivanhoe Robin athlete.

This information needs to be returning to me by 12th June 2009, as I only intend to register once this year with next year being due by 1st April 2010
