Trip to Oxford 30th May 2010

Please let us know without delay if you would like to go to Oxford this year. The closing date is 17th May for entries and we need to know if you would like to go on the bus.

For the benefit of all the new robins – a reminder of the details of the trip:

For the past three years, we have taken a bus of Robins, parents and coaches to the 5 star/ 10 step award athletics meeting at Oxford. This year it is being held on Sunday 30th May 2010. It is a great event because it starts from age 7 and you compete against your own year group. Everyone who has been in the past has thoroughly enjoyed the day and we have had some individual medals as well. Everyone also gets a certificate with their 10step/5star award points. If you are interested in going we need to know as soon as possible to book buses etc. We expect Robins to enter themselves for the event (cost £7 this year) but the club pays for all athletes plus one accompanying adult on the bus. Anyone else accompanying can also go on the bus at a nominal charge. All Robins should have at least one adult with them.

Don’t forget you have to enter beforehand – by 17th May - Entry form and details of events are on www.oxfordcityathleticclub.com

The bus will leave at 8.00am from Ashby Library (where you can park free on a Sunday). We leave Oxford at about 5.30pm

***If you would like to be on the bus and haven’t already confirmed this please E mail Sharon Smith immediately on gazshazsmith@sky.com ***

Robins Summer Grand Prix (see attached list and details)

The first Grand Prix event is the 1 mile fun run at Abbey Fields, Kenilworth on 15th May. (Postcode CV8 1BP). If you have not already entered, you will now have to enter on the day. There will be a Robins session as normal at Measham for those not attending the fun run.

The second event will be long jump to be held at Shobnall track, Shobnall leisure centre, Shobnall Road, Burton upon Trent, DE14 2BB on 22nd May. There is no Robins at Measham that day as the leisure centre is unavailable. All Robins should therefore be at Shobnall between 10.00 to 12.00. As well as long jump there will be an opportunity to race on the track  which many of the younger Robins may not have tried before and try some throws.

Please note the following and respond to the survey below ASAP – Ivanhoe Robins is part of this network and your views as members are important

As you may or may not know a new network organisation has been setup in Leicestershire called the “Vision 2020 Network”. Ivanhoe Robins is a member of this network. The overall aims of the network are to achieve the following for the network club members.

1.       Coaching – a better, more coordinated and shared coaching framework

2.       Development – that all levels of athlete are developed within the clubs

3.       Facilities – that we have better shared facilities within Leicestershire

4.       Communication – that there is greater communication and cooperation between the Leicestershire clubs

5.       Recruitment/Retention – that all clubs achieve more effective recruitment at all levels and maintain a healthy retention of new and existing members.

We have been successful in gaining considerable funding from England Athletics which will be used to pay for the provision of a Network Co-ordinator position in the County that will aim to achieve the overall goals outlined above. It is important that we focus this role effectively in delivering the right balance of initiatives and actions for the member clubs. In order to help us to achieve this we kindly ask that you fill out a short online questionnaire.

The survey is located at the following web address, just click on it below to go to the survey

 http://www.surveypirate.com/Survey.aspx?surveyid=15489&sp.mac=mBUP0XsffRBPZpvFUYjT6A%3d%3d

It is very simple to use and shouldn’t take much time to complete. We would be grateful if you could fill this out as soon as possible so that we can use the results to make sure we are getting the right person into the new coordinator role. If you have any problems in filling out the survey then don’t hesitate to let me know at richardderykevans@hotmail.com.
