Our first National Club Representatives

Ivanhoe Robins were represented for the first time at the National

Cross Country Relays at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield on 31st October. We had two teams – under 13 girls and under 13 boys. Both teams did brilliantly well and showed that our club is up there amongst the National Teams. The boys’ team came in 53rd and the girls 78th Well done also to Robins who ran for other clubs: Lucy, Megan, Ellie, Georgia, Hannah, Sam, Zach and Jake.

The next cross country races for clubs are:

Saturday 9th January – County XC Championships, Wigston.

Saturday 30th January – Midlands XC Champs, - Stafford Common

Saturday 27th February – National XC Champs – Leeds

Individual positions count for these races, but there are also team placings. For the County races this is a team of four (up to six at the Nationals) so if anyone would like to join our teams please let Paul know ASAP. You have to be first claim to Robins.

Sportshall

Also on 31 October, another group of Robins represented the club at the county Sportshall competition at the Hermitage Leisure centre. They were: Ben Murray, Elliott Kind, William Paling, Ben Clarke, Daniel Edgecombe, Jordan Meakin, Jordan Fellowes, Kate Riley, Anna Chambers, Faith Dowdy, Rhiannon Woolerton, Jessica Male, Natasha Kirk, Amber Stevens, Alice Lord, Daisy Tyers, Isobel Hughes, Laura Turner, Joy Rushton, and Elise Hall-Dryden.

The teams showed great enthusiasm and had a good time, coming second overall in the competition. Some of our athletes have now been selected to represent Leicestershire at the regional competition. Special congratulations to Alice, Elise, Faith, Jessica, Joy, Kate, Laura, Daniel, Jordan and Jordan. Also to Rhiannon, Natasha and Ben Murray who are reserves.

These are the remaining dates for the winter grand prix. This year we have taken a mix of the Centurion grand prix, the Derby runner league and other races to make up six out of which you must complete at least four to complete the grand prix:

November 22nd 2009 - Derby Runner at Foremark

December 6th 2009 - Centurion 2k fun run

January 10th 2010 - Derby runner Bagworth Heath

February 13th 2010 - Ivanhoe Challenge

March 7th 2010 - Centurion 2k fun run

We have amended the age groups this year so that they are in school years- (yr 3/4, yr 5/6, yr 7/8, and yr 9 and above). This is because some of the races are different lengths for different age groups. There will therefore be no overall winner, but prizes (cash!) for first, second and third in each age group.

Other dates to note:

28th November 2009 – the leisure centre is unavailable so we have again booked the Hipac at Loughborough from 9.00am.

20th December 2009 – The Mince Pie Run – a fun run with members of Ivanhoe runners.

20th December 2009 – Christmas Party at Swadlincote Ski Centre
