September has been a busy month for our club athletes with Robins competing at many different events. October looks like being equally exciting with the school XC season getting into full swing, our winter Grand Prix beginning and the start of the first ever Leicestershire Sports Hall League.  Results and reports below but we have some important events in the next few weeks which we need you to read about first!

SPORTSHALL.

Robins have always excelled at Sports Hall and this competition is an ideal opportunity for both track and field and endurance athletes to compete, without the mud and the rain. This is the first time the Leicestershire and Rutland Athletics Association have run a league competition which will lead to selection for the county at a regional final.  As you are all keen athletes we will assume those selected are willing to participate and unless your Team Managers hear otherwise you will be entered as our team.

The league consists of three events which will take place on the following dates.

Congratulations to our four Club athletes who were selected to represent Leicestershire in the Young Athletes Inter Counties Match at Saffron Lane Stadium on Saturday. All 4 competed in the Under 13s age group amongst stiff competition from the top athletes from the seven Midlands Counties. Gemma Holland  competing for the A team put in a grade 1 performance achieving a throw of 9.09 with the shot put and taking 2nd place overall. Nathan Lewis also competing for the A team cleared 1.40 in the high jump to take 3rd place. In the Forest

Robins also made their presence felt at the National Forest Fun Run this month. The course was approx one mile in the grounds of Conkers. Hannah Cox, Harriet Roberts and Lucy Roberts finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd well ahead of the fastest boy! Well done to our younger runners   Esme, Mia, Anna, Harry,  Hannah,Bethan,Natasha  who all completed the course in great style!

In the Town.

Twenty two Robins competed in the Hinckley Runners 1 mile fun run on a warm September evening.  This race was the Final Grand Prix event for the summer season and most of the Robins seemed to have managed to secure a place on the front line before the off, creating an intimidating sea of blue vests or T shirts!  The Robins dominated the top positions in the field of over 200 runners. Hannah Cox was the first girl overall by a considerable margin completing the course in 5.56mins. Harriet Roberts was 3rd girl overall finishing in 6.32 followed quickly over the line by Abby Williamson in 4th who clocked 6.34. Next in for the Robins and first of our under 11s was Amber Stevens in 6.46. Following Amber were Ellie Shaw 6.47, Lucy Roberts 6.54, Gemma Holland 7.16, Isobel Armstrong 7.18. Daisy Tyers 7.27, Millie Shaw 7.34, Esme Freitas 7.44, Jasmine Stevens 7.51, Amy Shaw 7.56, Leah Smith 7.57, Holly Powell 8.00 and Rhiannon Woolerton 8.17.

Zach Meakin ran a very fast race finishing in 2nd place in 5.51 beaten by 1 second by an older competitor. Jake Shaw was 3rd boy home overall just 4 seconds behind clocking 5.55. next for the Robins was George Roberts 6.10, Jordan Meakin 6.59, Tom Potter 7.08, Adam Smith 7.42 and Harry Beck 9.45.

All of the Robins ran a strong race tackling the final hill with speed and determination!

Congratulations too to Matt Cox who completed the 5k race in a time of 19mins 44 finishing 34th in a field of 248 and Abby Williamson who had already raced the one mile who finished the 5k in 25.03.

Presentation for the summer Grand Prix will be held during Robin’s sessions on 16thOctober at aprox 10.50. Could athletes attending the first session be prepared to stay an extra 10 minutes and the second session to arrive by 10.45?

.At the Leisure Centre – Adrian Smith Handicap.

Due to many understandable absentees, due to school cross country races yesterday and road relays today, it was still very sad that of those members that didn’t take part in either of those events, we only had 9 entries for today’s race. It was still however, a very competitive race and close finish. The previous year’s champion Sam Shepherd started at the back of the field and soon started making his way through the field. However, some of the younger competitors took their chance at leading a race and were not willing to give it up easily.

The results were as follows:-

1                     Millie Shaw

2                      Mia Rawlins

3                     Tom Blewitt-Jenkins

4                     Sam Shepherd

5                     James Foster

6                     Amy Shaw

7                     Isobel Armstrong

8                     Rosie Tipper

9                     Harriet Brown

Many thanks to the helpers, Julian Rawlins, Ian Shaw, Ruth Shaw, Sophie Arkinstall & Lucy Arkinstall, and £9 will be sent via Ivanhoe Runners to the British Heart Foundation.
